Today, Sept. 6th, Amazon held a press conference in Santa Monica, CA. This event debuted the Kindle Fire last year and kickstarted the 7-inch tablet era. At this press conference, Amazon started off releasing a new Kindle. This Kindle is called the Paper White. You might be think to yourself, what a weird name, but it is quite cool. It features a 212 PPI screen, that displays text in a crisp fashion! It is coming in at 9.1 mm thin, and they debuted two models of them. The first one is the WiFi edition which retails for $119, and the next one if the 3G model, which retails for $179. Not to mention, the 3G is free and the coverage is global.
Coming up next, Amazon debuted their new Kindle Fire counterpart. This Kindle Fire HD 7 features the sexy 7-inch body, but has some increased specifications. It has a 1280 x 800 IPS display, a OMAP 4470 processor, an HD Webcam, and 16 GB of storage. Pretty neat and a significant upgrade from last year’s Kindle Fire. Not to mention, the same glamorous price of $199. The last device they released was the Kindle Fire HD 8.9. Now if the name doesn’t already clue you in on the screen size, I don’t know what will. For specifications, it is featuring a 1920 x 1200 8.9-inch screen, an OMAP 4470 processor, HDMI output, 254 PPI included within the screen, HD webcam, and storage options at 16GB to 32GB. The 8.9 listed will retail for $299. Now, Amazon realized something while designing the Kindle Fire HD 8.9, and that is 4G LTE. They are including 4G LTE on AT&T’s network in the 8.9-inch tablet. Granted, it will cost you $499. Storage options for the 4G LTE model are 32GB and 64GB. Plans for the 4G LTE start at $49.99 for 250 MB per year.To sum up, Amazon really stepped it up this year with every a consumer would want. They have tablets for the business, family, and just something that an average person would use. In my opinion, I think Amazon nailed it on the head with their releases!
