In New York City, Microsoft finally announced their Surface Pro 3 tablet. The tablet has a 12-inch display with an amazing resolution of 2160×1440 pixels and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Microsoft wants this tablet to replace your MacBook and iPad’s… That’s quite a bold statement to be honest.

The Surface Pro 3 also has the same design as the previous ones, but it seems to be following Apple’s footsteps and made it thinner, coming in at 9.1mm and the Start Button has been moved to the left-side of the display, meaning it will sit below in Portrait Mode.

The Surface Pro 3 is powered by Intel’s latest Haswell processors, and Microsoft claims this to be the slimmest device ever to pack a Core CPU. Here are the different price ranges –

  • i3-4GB RAM-64GB – $799
  • i5-4GB RAM-128GB – $999
  • i5-8GB RAM-256GB – $1299
  • i7-8GB RAM-256GB – $1549
  • i7-8GB RAM-512GB – $1949

Pre-orders start tomorrow, and the tablet will be available in the United States from the 20th of June. The rest of you, will have to wait till mid/end August.

The tablet has two 5-megapixel cameras (front and rear) capable of shooting 1080p video, front-facing stereo speakers and a ton of connectivity ports. These include a USB 3.0, Mini Display Port and a microSD card slot. The new Surface Pro also has a brand new Surface Pen which has high-precision and pressure sensitivity. The tablet also features an updated Type Cover which automatically adjusts the angle of the kickstand. Not bad.
