Apple has decided to pull the app ‘Bang With Friends’ app from the App Store. There is no word on why it was pulled out. It anonymously picks which Facebook friends they’d like to hook up with, and then notifies them when there’s a match. The app title does sound wrong, ‘Bang with Friends’… If you know what I mean! :)

Co-founder and CEO Colin Hodge broke the news to Gawker’s ValleyWag blog, saying that they are working with Apple to get the application, which now caters to more than 1 million users, back into the App Store as quick as possible.

Apple has been pulling a lot apps out from the App Store like, App Gratis.

Well, the French Government didn’t really like that! Fleur Pellerin, France’s junior minister for digital economy, publicly described Apple’s decision to pull AppGratis as “extremely brutal and unilateral.”

This is what Reuters reports:

She added that certain Internet companies were guilty of “repeated abusive behaviour” and said she would ask the European Commission and EU member states to better regulate digital platforms, search engines and social media.

And AllThingsD:

This isn’t virtuous and dignified behavior for a company of that scale. The French are the world’s second-largest developers of software applications for mobile devices behind the United States.

What is the sense of investing if, overnight, your business model is jeopardized by a unilateral decision. This is an issue of fairness.

Apple told Reuters it removed AppGratis because it had disregarded its technical specifications. And Fleur Pellerin is the junior minister for digital economy with the French government and AppGratis, which has a staff of 40, is headquartered in Paris, France.

AppGratis, a popular app that used a variety of techniques to promote other apps, has been pulled from the App Store for violating Apple’s guidelines. Bad AppGratis!!! This is what AllThingsD has to say of what clauses AppGratis broke:

2.25 – Apps that display Apps other than your own for purchase or promotion in a manner similar to or confusing with the App Store will be rejected.

5.6 – Apps cannot use Push Notifications to send advertising, promotions, or direct marketing of any kind.

It’s the second time in six months a popular app like this has been removed. AppGratis is definitely not the only app available in the App Store that provides recommendations for apps on a paid basis.

Apple has issued some new rules for developers using the App Store. These changes take place from May 1st, 2013.

Applications that dont support the iPhone 5′s 4-inch display and that don’t support the retina display, will not be approved for the App Store.

In addition, applications will not be approved to be in the App Store if they request access to the iOS device’s UDID. This will keep the user and the device safer and more private.

The first rule has been created only because there are a lot of applications that still dont work with the iPhone 5 or the iPod Touch 5th Generation, and for user that can be extremely frustrating. This rule is for the old developers who’s applications till date are popular to update them for the new displays, etc.

Today, Apple stated that they will start rejecting App Store apps that have access to device UDIDs or doesn’t support the new iPhone and iPod Touch screen size. This policy will start on May 1st. Also, the UDID system will be replaced with the iOS Advertising Identifier, a non-personal identifier that developers can use.

This is what Apple had to say:

Starting May 1, the App Store will no longer accept new apps or app updates that access UDIDs. Please update your apps and servers to associate users with the Vendor or Advertising identifiers introduced in iOS 6. You can find more details in the UIDevice Class Reference.

In addition, Apple will not be accepting apps that do not support the iPhone 5 or iPod Touch 5g’s 4-inch Retina Display. This is also an official statement from Apple.

Starting May 1, new apps and app updates submitted to the App Store must be built for iOS devices with Retina display and iPhone apps must also support the 4-inch display on iPhone 5. Learn about preparing your apps by reviewing the iOS Human Interface Guidelines.
